Platen

A platen is a flat, heavy plate in a press that carries the die or mould. The moving platen (slide) is driven by the cylinder; the fixed lower platen (bolster or bed) takes the load.

In thermal presses, the platens are heated so the mould reaches the right temperature. Some presses have a lower platen that moves out of the press for safer loading and unloading.
