Cylinder repair

Repair and rebuild of hydraulic cylinders, including imported ones: inspection, new seals, rod and tube repair or replacement, and a pressure test before return.

Illustration of a hydraulic cylinder taken apart: piston, gland, rod and seals

A cylinder that leaks or drifts under load usually has worn seals, a scored or bent rod, or a damaged tube. Replacing the whole cylinder is not always necessary; a proper rebuild can return it to service at a lower cost.

In our workshop in 10th of Ramadan City we dismantle the cylinder, clean and measure every part, and find out why it failed. We then replace the seals and repair or replace the rod, tube, gland or piston as needed, using Pernoscal components where parts must be renewed.

Every rebuilt cylinder is tested under pressure before it goes back to you, with a short report on what we found and what we changed. If the original cylinder cannot be saved, we can build a new one to the same dimensions.

How it works

  1. 01

    Send us the cylinder

Open a service request with photos and the cylinder's details, then bring or ship it to our workshop.

  2. 02

    Dismantle and inspect

We clean and measure the rod, tube, piston, gland and seals, and record the condition of each part.

  3. 03

    Findings and quote

We explain the cause of failure and quote the repair, or a new cylinder if repair does not make sense.

  4. 04

    Repair

New seals, and repair or replacement of the rod, tube or other parts as agreed.

  5. 05

    Assemble and test

The cylinder is reassembled and tested under pressure for leaks and smooth movement.

  6. 06

    Return with a report

You receive the cylinder with a short report of the work done.

Questions

Why does a hydraulic cylinder leak or drift under load?

External leaks at the rod usually mean worn rod seals or a scored, corroded or bent rod. Drift, where the cylinder slowly retracts or extends under load, often means the piston seals are leaking internally, although a valve in the circuit can cause the same symptom.

Contaminated oil speeds up seal and rod wear. New seals alone will not last if the rod or tube surface is damaged, so we always inspect and measure these parts during a rebuild.

Do you service machines made by other manufacturers?

Yes. Our maintenance and cylinder repair work covers equipment from other makers, including imported machines. One of our projects started with repairing an imported scrap grapple before we built an improved replacement.

We assess each machine first. If spare parts are no longer available, we can often design and make them.
