Melamine & tableware

Hot-moulding presses for melamine plates, bowls and cups, where heat, pressure, cycle time and operator safety all have to be right at once.

Illustration of stacked melamine plates and bowls

Melamine tableware is moulded under heat and high pressure, and every cycle has to hold the right temperature, pressure and curing time. Small variations show up as warped pieces, a poor surface or incomplete parts. At the same time, the operator loads material and removes parts close to a hot die, many times an hour.

Pernoscal's thermal forming press (PSG-HPTF) is built for this work, from 80 to more than 600 t. The four-column frame keeps the platens parallel under load, and the control stores more than 100 programs, so a product change means selecting a program, not re-tuning the machine. On the shuttle version the lower platen moves out of the press for loading and ejection, so hands stay outside the pressing area.

We are currently developing a 150 t four-column thermal press for melamine tableware (PSG-HP4C-TR2-150-550-S300), with full program control and operator safety in a small footprint. If you are planning new capacity or replacing an older press, send us your product range and target output.

Questions

What is the difference between fixed platens and a moving lower platen on a thermal press?

On the fixed-platen version, the operator loads and unloads the die inside the press. On the moving (shuttle) version, the lower platen slides out of the press for loading and ejection, then returns for pressing.

The shuttle keeps the operator's hands away from the hot pressing area and makes loading easier. Both versions are available on the PSG-HPTF thermal forming press, from 80 to more than 600 t.

Can one press store settings for different products?

Yes. The PSG-HPTF thermal forming press stores more than 100 programs. Each program holds the settings for one product or mould, so a changeover means selecting a program rather than setting pressure, temperature and times by hand.

This shortens changeovers and keeps quality consistent between shifts and operators.
